The Story of Our Family
Rice Farms is a 5th generation family farming operation that started in 1914 when James Edward Rice moved from North Eastern Kansas to Wanatah, Indiana. From 1914-1916, they rented a farm on US 30 and in 1917 they were able to buy the farmland that our operation is currently based on.
When James Edward retired, he passed the operation to his son, Edward. Edward operated and grew the farm, passing it on to his son, Gene (pictured above) who retired in 1998. Gene then passed the operation to the 4th generation, his son, Scott. Scott and his wife, Marianne raised 6 children on the farm. They keep busy with 19 beautiful grandchildren.
Scott’s son, James, is now the 5th generation of the Rice family running and operating the farm. James and his wife, Ashley, have 3 children. They pray one day to be able to continue the family tradition of incorporating their children into the family farming operation.
